You can use hair dye to hide gray hair fast or instantly. There are both natural and chemical dyes to help out. For natural dyes, several brands have come on market and are very efficient in doing away with grey hair permanently or temporarily as deemed fit. How can you get rid of gray hair naturally and permanently?
Refer to the instructions to find out how long to let the dye develop for. Use a kitchen timer to ensure you don’t leave the dye on too long. I use L’Oreal Couleur Experte Express color and highlights.

There are also mascara-like products that are made for covering grey hair as well. These are great because they're more precise and you can really get into the root and be more detailed about your application. To avoid any clumps, brush your hair when you're done. Try to add volume to your hair, as it makes grey roots less visible.
Take care not to dye the hair that’s already colored. Overlapping the dye can cause a discolored band to form just beyond your roots. Brush the dye onto the roots at the edge of one quadrant. Use the provided brush or tool to paint the dye all the way around the perimeter of the section, including the part and the front hairline. This will help keep hair neat and contained, clearly mark your sectioning, and ensure saturation at the most visible areas.
Shades
Brewed ground beans and instant coffee granules may temporarily stain your hair a dark brown. Here’s how to use coffee to get rid of gray hair at home. Both bleach and, to a lesser extent, permanent hair dye will dry out your hair by lifting away its natural oils.
Scoop up a dollop of petroleum jelly or another thick moisturizer with your index finger and run it along any skin that is normally in contact with your hair. Color will grip dirty hair better than it will hair that is clean. If you've never bleached your hair to platinum blonde before, you will need to know how long it takes your hair to lighten. Select a small amount of hair close to the roots at an inconspicuous place and section it off. Let the bleach set and check the strand every 5 to 10 minutes.
Dark and Lovely fade resist
I always use this stuff with a 5 or 10 volume developer instead of the 20 they recommend on the bottle, simply to save my hair from even further damage. Depending on your natural colour, you may have to do the lightening process multiple times. For a complete technical guide on how bleaching works and how I bleach my own hair, check out this post.
Since the ends of your hair are most likely to become dry and damaged during bleaching, you may need to trim them off when you're finished. Make sure you have an extra inch or two of hair you're comfortable with losing. Your hair doesn't have to be naturally platinum blonde to go straight to dyeing it gray. If your hair has already been bleached and does not have a dye on top of it, then it's ready to go. Rinse your hair thoroughly and shampoo it twice. Shampoo your hair twice to restore the normal pH and ensure that all of the product is removed.

Other than dyeing your white hair, you can get rid it with treatments and other home remedies. Here’s a guide on cures for gray hair that you can try at home for permanent results. Seeing as how we are all stuck at home for the time being, we have launched a series of Facebook Live events called Colorist on Call. In each episode, one of our colorists will be hosting a live video showing you how to color your own hair at home. This week, we had our colorist Krista show everyone how to cover their gray roots at home without touching their existing highlighted hair.
If you’re using a normal shampoo, grab one without sulfates as they will strip the colour out slowly. Most shampoos “for coloured hair” should work, but keep in mind that it WILL still fade regardless of the shampoo you use. Before using any product on your hair, always remember to check for allergens. If you have known allergies, read the product's label to make sure it doesn't contain any substance you are allergic to.
You can make this judgement for yourself based on your results. If you’ve never dyed or bleached your own hair before, I recommend getting this done at a salon so you can be sure that it’s done properly with minimal damage. Put "color my hair" on your calendar as a recurring event. Once a month is a good rule of thumb. The more you color, you'll find pesky grays change texture, becoming softer and more receptive to hair dye. Reapply your petroleum jelly barrier first if it was washed away while rinsing out the toner.
But, if you do have excess color you want to remove, you could try rubbing a little of the excess hair dye onto your scalp. The chemicals will reactivate and you should be able to remove the dye more easily. Other tricks to try include using a little rubbing alcohol, lemon juice, toothpaste, or make-up remover on a cotton swab. A quick alternative to permanently fixing your highlights.
With a 5 of 10 volume, it’s not going to lift the colour any more, but instead just deposit the colour/toner onto your hair. This article was co-authored by Sarah Kosakowski. If your room is particularly cool then you can cover your hair with a plastic bag and tie a knot to secure in place. Highlights can definitely be tricky and time-consuming to apply at home. If you are looking for a permanent full-head color rather than a root touch-up, take a look at the options below.
DYE YOUR HAIR
Semi-permanent dyes and most toners are unlikely to dry out hair. These products do not penetrate the hair's outer layer and instead simply deposit pigment to only the surface of the hair. Allow the hair dye to stay on your roots 5 minutes longer than the box recommends if you have resistant gray hairs. Yes I use L Oreal Excellence cream, and have done for years.
